About us

SAGE – the herb, the colour, the wise one. Take your time.

SAGE opened on Rua da Palmeira in 2019, in the ground floor of an old palácio with four-metre ceilings and tall windows onto the street. In 2024 we took the room next door for a colour bar and a basin room with a view of the garden.

The house was built on one belief: great colour should feel personal, wearable and kind to your hair, and it should grow out as well as it goes in.

We specialise in lived-in colour, hand-painted balayage, copper and red, and grey blending. Our team works from a shared colour log, so every visit starts where the last one ended.

Education matters here. Inês teaches across Portugal and Spain, Kenji keeps our lightening log, and every Monday the team practises on mannequins and each other.

The rooms are designed to slow you down: daylight, plants, the coffee from Alcântara, and a playlist Marta swears is for focus.

Our space

Rua da Palmeira 14

We want to give our street a place to slow down. The salon is a calm, light-filled room where the chairs face the windows, not each other, and where every guest gets a consultation before a single bowl is mixed.

We know your hair is part of how you meet the world. We want you to leave feeling like the best version of yourself, every day after, too.

The propagation wall: glass tubes with cuttings on blush plaster

Sustainability

Beauty uses a lot of water, foil and plastic. We count ours, cut what we can and give the rest a second life. We're a member of a salon recycling programme that recovers over 90 % of our waste.

  • Foils, tubes and colour waste are collected, cleaned and recycled; leftover colour is neutralised, never poured away.
  • Cut hair is collected and turned into booms that soak up oil spills along the coast.
  • Every product we use comes in refill sizes; guests bring back their bottles for a discount.
  • Our basins run on low-flow heads and we reuse rainwater for the plants.
  • Our furniture is second-hand or locally made; the glassware is vintage or from Marinha Grande.
  • Every plant on the propagation wall started as a guest's cutting. Take one home, bring one back.

Our products

We choose products the way we choose colour: for how they behave in week eight. Everything on our shelves is cruelty-free, refillable and tested on our own heads first.

  • Bond care
A bond builder in every lightening service and a take-home treatment for between visits.
  • Gloss & tone
Acidic glosses that refresh tone without lifting, mixed fresh at the colour bar.
  • Refill bar
